My Baby. My Savior.

He’s beautiful!

He has a head full of black hair. He’s perfect. Well, except for his cone shaped head. But the women told me that might happen and said it would round out to normal in no time. He’s been asleep, lying in a little manger.

I did not see that coming! My pains got really strong as we made it into Bethlehem. Like a vice they squeezed me and I fought to breathe through them. I was so happy to see the Inn, but Joseph came out and said there were no rooms available. What? No rooms? He led me to the little barn out back and helped me down onto some clean hay. My mind whirled, but there wasn’t time to fret about it. I was in a weird zone riding wave upon wave of sharp, intense pain and then stillness. Joseph said I pushed for an hour. What a relief with that last push and the baby was out.

The baby bag worked beautifully. We tied and cut his cord and Joseph put him to my chest and he cried loud and clear. And we did, too. We’ve even had our first visitors. Some shepherds came and told us the most fantastic story of angels. They’re gone now and Jesus just awoke hungry. Joseph is asleep.

I’m pondering all the things the shepherds told us. Angels really came to announce my baby’s birth? And called him a Savior? Will he really save the Jews? Could this tiny baby at my breast save even me?

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a SAVIOR, which is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:10-11)
