At the beginning of the Spring, I ordered three shirts. Now, this may not impress many people, but I was very excited! I don’t order many things. The boxes that come are usually for Tom and now the boys, but never for me! So yay! I ordered shirts.
Week after week after week passed, and no box of shirts arrived. Ben said I should email the company and inquire on my shipment. The company responded with a return email and said, “Thanks for ordering. Your shipment is coming.” But they ended the e-mail with a curious line. “Rest assured, your order will be delivered.” My mind instantly went to the old hymn Blessed Assurance, but what were THEY saying to me? Were they patronizing me? Mocking me? Giving me a little pat? I just wanted my three shirts!
A week. Another week. More weeks. Notta for Momma! One night I was feeling a bit annoyed and plucky, and I sent another inquiring e-mail. This time ending it with, “I am not resting assured!” Take that shirt company!
One day a few weeks later Zack came in and said, “Mom, guess what?!” My shirts! Here at last!
Two didn’t even fit!
But that line! Rest assured! It has stuck with me! Are you resting assured? Am I? In this crazy time we are living in! With Communism and Socialism rearing their ugly heads in our politics, complete evils of pedophilia and human trafficking abounding, and oh yeah, a pandemic wrecking health, lives, and the economy. Are we resting assured we will be ok? Are we resting assured Jesus is ours? Are we assured we are heirs of salvation? Assured we have been purchased by God?
I think when our Deliverer said that his Father so very much loved us that he sacrificed his only son for us, and if we only just believe in Him, eternal life is ours, He meant it.
I think when our Savior said on the cross “It is finished”, He meant it. The deal was done. We can rest assured the price was paid in full.
A box of salvation was delivered right then and there for each one of us. Open it up! Put it on! One size fits all! And that my friends, is something to rest assured about!
