A retiree had volumes to say about every topic. The committee members were noticeably exasperated with the loquacious expert. Nobody tried to stop the onslaught except a long-time friend of the retiree. When he could get a word in edgewise he spoke tongue-in-cheek.
I would like to announce that I am writing a new book. The title is How to Retire Gracefully. Laughter filled the room. The retiree forced a smile and was not heard from the rest of the meeting.
I was on that committee. I was 3 years from the retirement journey. I made a few decisions you might wish to consider.
First — It is better to be asked for your opinion than to offer uninvited.
Second — Do lots of listening.
Third — Get a life apart from your work.
Fourth — Tinker in your yard and garden. Time to think.
Fifth — Turn the job over to the next generation.
Sixth — Begin the first day of the rest of your life engaging in a new adventure.
Last — Don’t feel guilty doing nothing. You’ve earned it.
HAPPY RETIREMENT!
