How about them Cowboys? Oh my! I’m not sure what happened, but after 4 quarters Dallas actually had crushed someone! It was a beautiful game!
Now, now, settle down! I can feel some of y’all getting annoyed at me! You think football is the biggest waste of time ever! (You have a good arguement.) But hang in there with me. I’m coming to a point!
The Dallas Cowboys. America’s team! In the football world you either love them or you love to hate them. You either cheer for them as they slowly break your heart or you love to make fun of them. You either watch them hoping they’ll win or you tune in to see them lose. You love ‘em or hate ‘em — and it reminds me of our Almighty God!
Biblically, from beginning to end, He is either loved or hated. 2/3 of his angels loved him, 1/3 didn’t. The Israelites, despite their many shortcomings, loved him. Their enemies did not. In the New Testament, God the Son enters our planet and from his baby days he was loved…and hated. The disciples grew to love him with all their hearts. The Pharisees hated him. The poor and sick loved him. The Romans killed him.
The interesting C.S. Lewis, atheist turned Christian, left us some great quotes. In his book Mere Christianity he pens, “… you can shut him up for a fool, you can spit on him and kill him as a demon, or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God…” Basically, you love him or hate him.
I know all of you aren’t going to be cheering for the Cowboy’s star next Sunday, after all, it IS actually one of the most unimportant things out there! But the Son… well, that’s a different story! I hope we are all reminded of what the most important thing out there actually is! Our good, good Father. Our Creator God. We either love him or hate him. We are for him or against him. Unlike my Dallas Cowboys, he will never disappoint us. Like Joshua, may we choose to love Him.
