Church doctrine is like a California desert unless saturated by the love of Jesus.
I grew up in a Pennsylvania church that gasped to stay alive. Twice a year a roving evangelist rented the Odd Fellows hall and preached the truth for three weeks. The meetings ended without any decisions. The little church kept struggling. Reason? Jesus was not shown in all His beauty. He gave an interesting lecture on church history and emphasized behavior,
There is a place for prophecy, but it is not meant to introduce people to the Savior of the world. Prophecy is a series of signposts that tell Christians that they are on the right path.
During my ministerial training the main emphasis was prophetic studies. After graduation I walked where rubber met the road. People were broken and heartsick. They needed to know that Jesus planned a future free from the trouble of the world. They needed the assurance that Jesus overcame the world.
I spoke to a large congregation in Battle Creek, Michigan. I noticed a large plaque on the pulpit that read We Would See Jesus. I wish every roving evangelist had such a plaque on every pulpit behind which they spoke.
