Reflect His Light!

It may come as a surprise to some of you, but sometimes…I’m the one who drives Tom nuts! I know, right?

At the end of the day, when our family comes together in the living room, I like the room dark! Lamps are okay, but turn the big light off! The dark is calming and peaceful (and the dirt and imperfections are hidden!).

Tom argues he “needs the big light to read” or he “needs the big light to see us,” but NAH! He really doesn’t! And so we sit in the dark, just the way I like it!

On the Arkansas State Parks road trip we are on, we explored Mt. Nebo. We drove out to Sunset Point for the sunset. Ben was photographing like crazy. The rest of us sat on a bench and watched the big ball of gas going down. We wondered at the science of burning hydrogen. And we marveled at the thought of how this Earth we walk on is actually a ball suspended in space along with countless suns, stars, and planets.

As we sat there, I looked at Tom and Jake and noticed they were glowing! We were all reflecting this gorgeous bright light the sun was casting on it’s descent. It was really cool! And it made me think of #bethelight. You know…all the verses and phrases about light from the Bible.

Thy word is a light unto my path.

This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine.

You are the light of the world.

It also made me think of the things we reflect. Who we reflect. The great phrase my principal Mr. B always used is true! By beholding, we do become changed. Like my love for a dark living room, do we behold the darkness? Or do we behold the light?

Psalm 36:9, last part, is exactly perfect for the thoughts I had seeing the glow our Mt. Nebo sunset cast on us. It simply says, “In Your light, we see light.”

There are so many political and social issues to get us sidetracked these days. And although many of them are truly important, it’s easy to totally lose focus. My tiny little Mount Nebo experience has reminded me to be in the Light. To just stay in the Light. To focus on the Light. To behold the Light.

And, if I do that, I don’t have to worry what kinds of things I’ll reflect. I will naturally reflect His light.

“In Your light, we see light.”
