The Dallas Cowboys. America’s team. A team who is loved. A team who is hated. I fully know there will be some who read this little blog and will overlook anything uplifting that may be found. They’ll go straight to the comment, “The Cowgirls stink.” I’ll risk it.
The Webbs have always cheered for the Cowboys. Daddy and the boys would end their Sunday chores by noon and get cleaned up, sit down on the orange shag carpet, and we’d yell in elation and frustration at the TV. As we do now.
These days Dak Prescott is the Cowboy’s quarterback. He has developed an interesting cadence before the ball is snapped. Quarterbacks must communicate with the rest of the team on exactly when the football should be snapped. You may know a term called “hike” or “hut” from the playground. When whatever word or phrase is recognized by the team as the “go” word, then the ball is snapped back to the quarterback and the play starts. Everyone has to do it at the same time or a penalty can be called.
“Here we go.” The beginning of Dak’s cadence. You can hear him shout it loud and clear, “Here we go.” What does it mean? It means be still, be quiet, the play is about to start. I really like it. I like hearing him command that. Some people don’t. The haters. Whatever. “Here we go” makes me feel confident that a completed pass or positive yards will happen!
2024 “Here we go!” What will happen in 2024? Even without a crystal ball, I can almost guarantee you will laugh a lot. And cry a lot. There’s a good chance you will have both beautiful blessings and devastating loss.
But this new year feels different to me. Almost like God himself is commanding, “Here we go!” And what does that mean? Be still. Be quiet. The last play – the one you’ve been waiting for – is about to start!
Happy New Year 2024! No matter what it does or doesn’t bring, may we be confident that He is faithful to carry us to completion! (Philippians 1:6)
Here. We. Go.
He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. (Revelation 22:20)
